Does it crisp as well as a basket fryer, or is it slow?
It crisps as well, and most customers say better. The 1600 W heater runs hotter than the thin tube in most basket fryers, and the raised steel basket lets hot air under the food. A big batch can take two or three minutes longer than a small drawer, because the bowl holds more. That is the trade for nothing peeling.
Is anything inside it coated? Even the rack?
No. The bowl is heat-proof glass. The mesh basket, the rotisserie basket and the skewers are stainless steel. There is no non-stick, ceramic or any other coating on any surface that touches food. The plastic is the lid housing and the handles, above and outside the bowl.
Does the glass get hot? I have kids.
The bowl gets hot the way a roasting dish gets hot, so the heat mat and glove are in the box and you handle it by the locking side handles. The lid has a cooling fan and stays cool enough to lift by its edges. Set the hot lid on the mat, not the counter.
Will the glass shatter?
It is the same kind of heat-proof glass as a good glass baking dish and it takes 390°F every night. The one thing not to do is run it under cold water straight from the fryer, or set a scorching bowl on a cold granite counter. Let it sit a few minutes first. If it ever cracks in normal use in the first two years, you get a new bowl free.
How heavy is the bowl, and how much counter does it take?
The empty bowl weighs about as much as a large glass casserole dish. Full of a chicken, use two hands. The footprint is about that of a large mixing bowl, with the lid standing tall on top, so it suits an open counter better than a spot under a low cabinet. The bowl and lid separate for storage.
Will it trip my breaker?
It uses 1600 W, like most air fryers. Plug it straight into its own wall outlet, not a power strip shared with the coffee maker, and it runs fine on a normal kitchen circuit.
Never heard of Kaldera. Why trust it over a Ninja or a Fritaire?
Fair question. That is why the 60-day trial and the 2-year warranty exist. Use it as your only fryer for two months. If it lets you down, every cent comes back. If it fails in month twenty, it is still covered. The other glass fryers give you 60 to 90 days.
What if it breaks after a year?
Send us a message and you get it repaired or replaced, free. The 2-year warranty covers the heater, the lid, the rotisserie motor and the glass, counted from the day yours arrives. We look up your order, so there is no receipt to find.
